Sam Ian Metler, 54, passed away on December 4, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the city where he was born and spent much of his life. Born on February 19, 1971, in Albuquerque, Sam brought energy and creativity into everything he did. Known for his dynamic spirit and free-spirited nature, he embraced life with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation for the world around him.
Sam had a passion for landscaping and was widely regarded as an expert in the field. His work transformed outdoor spaces into vibrant sanctuaries, reflecting both his artistic eye and his love of nature. Whether designing intricate garden layouts or nurturing plants to full bloom, Sam approached each project with dedication and flair.
His talents extended beyond the garden. A gifted cook and grill master, Sam found joy in preparing meals for those around him. Cooking was not just a hobby—it was one of his greatest expressions of love. He delighted in experimenting with flavors and sharing his creations with family and friends.
Sam also had a profound love for animals. Over the years, he adopted many beloved pets who became cherished members of his household. His compassion for animals was matched by his commitment to their care and well-being.
He is survived by his wife Kristin Adair; his son August of Olean, NY; his father David F. Metler III; brothers David (and wife Glenda) and Brian; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, fur babies, and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Eleanor Macpherson.
Sam’s vibrant personality left an indelible mark on those who knew him. His memory lives on through the gardens he cultivated, the meals he shared, and the lives he touched with kindness and humor.
